This special livery was unveiled after UNESCO registered the Jomon archaeological sites in the northeastern part of Hokkaido (Aomori, Iwate & Akita prefectures) as a World Cultural Heritage Site. The Jōmon period is the time in Japanese prehistory, traditionally dated between c. 14,000–300 BCE. The scheme incorporates drawings of children from the Aomori prefecture representing artefact from the Jomon sites.
A new campaign was launched at JTA in association with the Okinawa Tourism Convention Bureau in October 2020; the colourful logo applied to this 737 was made of 21 kinds of Okinawan creatures and nature such as the Iriomote cat, the whale shark, Shisa and palm trees, arranged in the shape of a rainbow-coloured banyan tree. A smaller version of the decal was visible on Ryukyu Air Commuter Q400 JA82RC.
The 2020 Japan Expo, taking place in parallel with the Olympics, was to be a series of art exhibitions and performing arts performances by Agency for Cultural Affairs, the Japan Arts and Cultural Association, related ministries and agencies, cultural facilities, local governments, private companies and organizations to emphasize the beauty of Japan. Note the Expo inaugural and several events were cancelled due to the measures taken by the government against Covid-19.
Another cooperation agreement with the local tourism board to stimulate tourism to Okinawa at a moment when karate was announced to make its debut appearance at the Summer Olympics in 2020 in Tokyo.
The Asahiyama Zoo is the northernmost zoo in Japan celebrating 50 years in 2017 with JAL as a partner. The Shinlin Wolf logo refers to the first species that became extinct on the islands because of humans.
Okinoerabujima is one of the Satsunan Islands, classed with the Amami archipelago between Kyūshū and Okinawa. This special decal was unveiled when the Okinoerabu Airport (served by JAC) was officially named Eburu Yuri Island Airport (えらぶゆりの島空港). Eburu Yuri is a species of white lilly which is native to Okinoerobu.
Takeda Castle is a ruined castle in the city of Asago, north of Kyoto. This scenic spot is served by JAC via Tajima Airport, which is linked to Osaka-Itami. Note the special decal was featured in very small size on the port side.
In 2015/2016 the Tajima Airport Council held a photo contest in which JA8642 with the special Takeda Castle decal was to be included. Winners were awarded free Tajima beef pieces (!).
This female whale-shark joined company 737 "Jinbei Jet" with a similar livery in January 2014. JTA is a partner of the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and supports here its efforts to get whale sharks through artificial breeding. The pink colour of the jet matches the cherry blossoms (sakura) of the local Kanhizakura species ; Yanbaru (Okinawa) traditionally sees the earliest cherry blossom to bloom in Japan. Note the additional sakura flower on the front door.
Paiguru & Pikarya are two mascots of the Yaeyama Islands District celebrating the opening of the New Ishigaki Airport that occured on March 7th, 2013. The major improvement over the previous facility is the longer 2000m runway. Paiguru the Bird (ぱいーぐる) is the new airport's mascot while Pikaryaa (ピカリャ) the cat is the mascot of neighboring Taketomi Town in the island of the same name.
Celebrating the 45th anniversary of the airline and the 10th anniversary of Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium by presenting this Whale Shark. The initial idea came to a JTA cabin crew member visiting the Aquarium, and the design is modeled after resident whale shark "Jinta". The design was so successful among customers that a derived Sakura Jinbei Jet design was unveiled in 2014 (see separately); a 737-800 was delivered in the original scheme to replace the -400 as the type was being withdrawn from the fleet.
The Sapporo city is a natural partner for HAC, which is based in the Sapporo downtown airfield of Okadama. "Sapporo Smile" is a city promotion strategy of the city which began with the theme of "The city that can become a smile". Note that due to the large size of the cargo door on the port side decals were different on both sides. JA01HC wore the full HAC green livery while '02 & '03 were in JAL Arc of the Sun scheme.
The Tokyo SkyTree is a 634m high broadcasting, restaurant, and observation tower. It is the tallest tower in the world (and second tallest structure behind the Burj Khalifa in Dubai). The tower opened to the public on May 22, 2012 with JAL as a partner.
The Yôkoso! Japan campaign was superseded by the Endless Discovery campaign in 2010. ANA also displayed this «Endless Discovery» decals on 2 767 and 2 777. Note all aircraft in this list except JA614J wore the decals with the "Arc of the sun" livery; JA614J had the new livery and kept the titles longer.
To celebrate the restart of Haneda-Honolulu flights in late 2010, JAL teamed up with the Hawaii tourist office to promote the flights. Both sides of the plane were only slightly different. The "
Waku Waku Aloha Program" was a free program that allowed JAL passengers to experience Hawaiian culture such as hula lessons and Hawaiian quilt creation.
JA8981 was JAL’s very first 777, delivered in February 1996 as "Sirius" in the Star Jets series. The aircraft was also the first JAL 777 to be retired in 2014 after 18 years flying domestic Japan services.
"Welcome to Japan!". The Yôkoso! Japan was a large initiative by the Japanese Tourism Bureau to invite more visitors from the rest of Asia and overseas. It was featured at both JAL and ANA but decals were more prominent at JAL. These two JAA aircraft were the only ones to display traditional postcard artwork.
