Manzhouli is a city in the Hulunbuir prefecture of Inner Mongolia province with population about 250'000. It is on the border with Russia and is China's busiest land port of entry. The massive, iconic building just aft of the front door was the Manzhouli Gate, materializing the border between China & Russia. The city is also a major ground transport hub, notably for train connections, Manzhouli being a stop on the
Trans-Manchurian branch of the Moscow-Beijing railway. The rest of the decals refer to the Russian-influenced Matryoshka square in downtown Manzhouli. Overall the city is said to be an interesting marriage between Oriental and European charm.
Last but not least mammoth were featured aft of the wing; a Mammoth Park indeed opened in recent years to commemorate the discovery of mammoth fossils in the Jalainur district of Manzhouli. Though Manzhouli has never been on the historical Silk Road which traditionally ended in Xi'An, the Silk Road name here probably referred to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the
One Belt, One Road initiative launched by the PRC Government in 2013 aiming at increasing ties with neighbouring territories.
