JA606A B767-381ER ANA (opb Air Japan/Air Nippon) [+] 2007-15

2007 was "China Year" at ANA, with various initiatives celebrating the 35th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China as well as 20 years of service by ANA. A full panda-like livery was chosen for the occasion, with titles in Japanese on the port side and in English on the starboard side. Note that part of the original titles was removed at the end of 2007 while the livery itself kept flying on ANA's Asian network (and primarily to China) for another 7 years.

The two first new-generation 737 of the ANA Group wore a special golden livery, an auspicious colour in Asia. They were operated by subsidiary Air Nippon and mainly served the Nagoya-Taipei route. The gold colour was also reportedly linked to the Shachihoko (an animal in Japanese folklore with the head of a tiger and the body of a carp) adorning the roof of the Nagoya Castle.

JA391K B737-4Y0 ANK Air Nippon  [+] 2000-05
JA392K B737-46M ANK Air Nippon  [+] 2001-06

ANK Air Nippon was a wholly owned subsidiary of ANA which mainly operated short routes to isolated islands in support of ANA’s domestic services. Among these were the Izu Islands stretching south of Tokyo. While each of these volcanic island has a specific touristic appeal, Mikura-jima is known for dolphin watching. Island Dolphin is the name of the species that can be observed in the area.

Note that prior to this the airline’s B737-500 were already named Super Dolphin and had a dolphin decal on the engines. These two -400 series were initially added to fly the Haneda-Hachijojima route, from where helicopters and boats can bring you to Mikurajima. JA391K started operating the route on July 1, 2000.

Unlike JA391K, JA392K did not sport ANK tail titles. The small Island Dolphin and "-GO! Hachijojima -" titles were only in Japanese and were removed in 2002; around 2004 the Japanese flag was replaced by a small decal celebrating the 30 Years of the ANA subsidiary. Later on JA391K was stationed at Fukuoka.
