Starting 2014 the airline changed its corporate identity and the fern has become a part of the standard livery, with one aircraft in each subfleet painted in an all-black variation. Note the colour of the engines depends on the type.

The Hobbit is a film series consisting of three high fantasy adventure films directed by Peter Jackson. Together they act as a prequel to Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. New Zealand's beautiful landscapes again served as the scenery of the "Middle-Earth", and Air New Zealand was again a partner of the series.

This first aircraft was unveiled in November 2012 in time for the release of the first opus The Lord of the Rings: The Desolation of Smaug. The aircraft featured a giant decal of Smaug the dragon.

The Hobbit is a film series consisting of three high fantasy adventure films directed by Peter Jackson. Together they act as a prequel to Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. New Zealand's beautiful landscapes again served as the scenery of the "Middle-Earth", and Air New Zealand was again a partner of the series.

This first aircraft was unveiled in November 2012 in time for the release of the first opus The Lord of the Rings: An Unexpected Journey. The aircraft transported the cast and film crew to the premiere which took place in Wellington on November 27, and performed a low-pass over the city the day after.

A total of 6 aircraft (1x B77W, 2x A320, 1x AT72, 2x B190) were painted in the New Zealand National Rugby Team colours. The fern is the team's emblem. Note only the two A320s had the "Crazy About Rugby" titles.

Starting 2014 the airline changed its corporate identity and the fern became a standard part of the standard livery, with one aircraft in each subfleet painted in an all-black variation (see separately).

This fourth aircraft was unveiled in November 2003 in time for the release of the third opus The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and featured the Éowyn character played by Miranda Otto as well as Arwen (Liv Tyler).

New Zealand's beautiful landscapes served as the scenery of the "Middle-Earth", and Air New Zealand capitalized on the success of the first film by joining the marketing team of the second and third movies, helping to boost the country's attractivity worldwide.

This third aircraft was unveiled in November 2003 in time for the release of the third opus The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and featured the Aragorn character played by Viggo Mortensen as well as Legolas (Orlando Bloom). The livery was updated in January 2004 when decals were added on all 4 engines.

One of three aircraft wearing distinctive decals to support the National Team for the 1999 Rugby World Cup. The New Zealand team was the favourite team pre-tournament but it lost to France in semi-finals. Therefore decals were removed shortly after the tournament. This 737 had a different decal in comparison to the 747 & Saab 340.

These were two of three aircraft to wear distinctive decals to support the National Team for the 1999 Rugby World Cup. The New Zealand team was the favourite team pre-tournament but it lost to France in semi-finals. Therefore decals were removed shortly after the tournament. The All Blacks front row of Carl Hoeft, Anton Oliver and Kees Meeuws was showed here. Note the Saab had a standard tail while the Jumbo had an all-black tail.

Both sides of this festive livery were different and anticipated the Millenium celebrations as well as the upcoming 30th America's Cup to be held in New Zealand & Australia. Team New Zealand was the defender having won the 29th Cup in 1995, and the challenger was the winner of the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup, Prada Challenge from Italy.
