This livery is an inverted variant of the Kingford Smith livery unveiled on VH-FGB. It commemorates the solo flight from Australia to England performed by Kingford Smith in a Avro Avian biplane, Southern Cross Minor, in the fall of 1931. He intended to gain publicity with an immediate return flight to Australia, but the return trip was abandoned on medical advice.

Following Qantas in 2003, Alliance also celebrated Charles Kingsford Smith 's maiden Pacific crossing onboard the 'Southern Cross' Fokker F.VII between May 31 and June 09, 1928. Alliance Airlines is headquartered in Brisbane Eagle Farm, precisely where "Smithy" landed its Fokker aircraft in 1928. This aircraft retraced the final part of that historic flight and landed at Brisbane Airport at 10:50 am, exactly 90 years to the minute of the historic Southern Cross land. Alliance is also a sizeable Fokker aircraft operator. The airline also teamed up with Newstead Brewing to offer an exclusive Alliance Airlines beer onboard its aircraft - the “Smithy’s FGB” Golden Ale.

The Pacific Games (15th edition) were held in Port Moresby for the 3rd time in July 2015. More than 3,700 athletes from the 22 Pacific Games Associations took part, plus first time entrants Australia and New Zealand. Note P2-PXD was wearing the basic Air Nuigini scheme at the time as it was wearing Kokoda campaign livery a few months earlier.
