Aerolíneas Centrales de Colombia (ACES) was once the proud airline of the city of Medellín, Colombia. Fernando Botero (born 1932) is a figurative artist and sculptor from Medellín. His signature was displayed on the fuselage and the aircraft was named "Medellín Ciudad de Botero" in his honour. The special decal was kept after the airline became part of the Allianza Summa alliance with Avianca & SAM. It is also to be noted that ACES was founded in 1971 by Colombian entrepreneurs that included another Mr. Botero.
The region of Armenia in the Colombian Coffee-Growers Axis was hit by an earthquake on January 25, 1999. As the local airline, ACES actively contributed to the relief effort and opened a current account in the Bancafé so the public could make donations. The bank account number was directly displayed on many of the airline's planes, including at least one of 5 727. ATRs also had a smaller version of the decal.
