Sanuki Udon & Ritsurin Garden
Kagawa & Takamatsu
B-LCB A320-232 Hong Kong Express  [+] 2017-21

Sanuki udon is a type of udon noodle originally popularized in the Kagawa Prefecture (Shikoku) but is now easily found throughout the neighboring Kansai region and much of Japan. It is characterized by its square shape and flat edges. Oishii is a species of large sea snail that can be found in the region, but in this case is a Japanese transcription of adjective 'delicious'.

Takamatsu is the capital city of the prefecture and the local Ritsurin Garden is one of the most famous historical gardens in Japan. The garden contains a tea house, various folk art and craft exhibits; in the garden itself there are various bridges, footpaths and small hills which offer a beautiful view of the garden and the surrounding scenery.

Dragonair celebrated its 20th anniversary on May 5, 2005 with the delivery of brand new A330 B-HWG. A large red dragon (in a design similar to the one of the Dragonair logo) filled most of the fuselage surface while other Hong Kong emblematic elements were added to the rest of the aircraft. The design was the work of illustrator Tania Willis.

Both sides were different, with the port side featuring a junk and fish leaping out of the water. Children playing with traditional Chinese lanterns were featured at the rear, with a classic village scenery in the background.

The starboard side showed a Star Ferry, the most famous skyscrapers of the HK CBD and a child playing with a butterfly-like kite with the typical hills in the background.

Same Team. Same Dream.   積極進取 飛越更高理想
B-HOX B747-467 Cathay Pacific  [+] 2000-03

B-HOX’s special livery commemorated the handover of HK back to China in 1997, as it was the case with predecessor B-HIB. The young athlete on the plane was overcoming a series of challenges to reach his goal, symbolizing the challenges of young Hong Kong in mainland China at that time. The slogan in Chinese could be literally translated as "Be proactive, Fly Higher Ideals".

Prosperity and progress will reach new heights
VR-HIB » B-HIB B747-267B Cathay Pacific  [+] 1997-98

This was Cathay’s first special livery, commissionned by the airline, and the work of freelance artist Annie Lee On-nei. As the territory was being handed-over back to China, the livery was unveiled on June 20, 1997 to convey a message of faith in the future of the city (which can be read in Chinese on the port side of the plane but was not translated in English on the plane). The registration of the plane changed from VR- prefix to B- on July 1st, 1997.

In 2000 and 2013 two subsequent redesigns of that concept were unveiled. It is interesting to note that over the years, the people have become more prominent than the skyline on the livery. Between 2002 and 2013, the airline used a more abstract design to promote HK as «Asia’s World City».
