Wild lychee trees can be found as one of the dominant tree species of tropical rainforests in southern China provinces such as Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan. The recorded history of lychee cultivation spans more than 2,000 years and Guangdong, the home province of China Southern, is a major contributor to the Chinese production.
