China Southern and Guangzhou Automobile Mitsubishi teamed up for this cultural soft power partnership. The aircraft flew 150 children from Guangzhou to Changsha (Hunan), the headquarters of Mitsubishi in China. After the return flight a visit of the Mitsubishi factories in Guangzhou was organised.

China Southern's Hunan branch was established in 1992 and as of 2017 operates about 20 A320 family aircraft.
