Vatnajökull

Vatnajökull
80 Years of Aviation 1937-2017
TF-FIR B757-256 Icelandair 2017-

Icelandair unveiled a second aircraft fully painted by airbrush artists in May 2017 to celebrate its 80th anniversary. Icelandair traces its roots back to 1937, when Flugfélag Akureyrar was founded in Akureyri. Operations started in 1938 with a single Waco floatplane.

Vatnajökull (water glacier in English) is Iceland's largest ice cap; it covers 8-9% of the country and is up to 1000 meters thick. The glacier is at the center of the national park of the same name, which is famous for its great variety of landscape features as well as volcanic and geothermal activity.

Altogether with Hekla Aurora, Vatnajökull is extensively used by the airline for public relations duties.
