The region advertised here is the
Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in the Yunnan province. Its name comes from the
Hong River (aka the Red River) flowing accross the land. The
Hani and the
Yi are two ethnic minority groups who live in the area; they were represented on the livery by two mascots. The livery main colour was the Kunming Blue, while white clouds and plum blossom patterns emphasized the fresh air and beautiful scenery of the region.
The region is mostly famous for the
Honghe Hani Rice Terraces. The terraces’ history spans around 1,200 years. In 2013, the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces were listed as a World Heritage Site. The mascots were added after a few months on AHL. Note Kunming Airlines also unveiled a 737 with a similar scheme in late 2016.
