A total of 30 737s had the Orange Peacock scheme applied (17 -700s and 13 -800s), most of them new deliveries directly painted at the Boeing factory. One of the subsidiary's A330 flagship plane also gained the livery in 2012. However the peacock livery didn't become the Yunnan standard scheme, which remained the standard MU livery with a green peacock feather (the Yunnan subsidiary had 70+ planes circa 2017). When MU changed its livery to the current Eurowhite scheme, all distinctive Yunnan logos were lost, except for the red Chinese-only Yunnan enterprise (雲南公司) titles.
The peacock is commonly used as a symbol in the Yunnan province. In Chinese decorative art, the peacock symbolizes dignity and beauty. Note the additional auspicious cloud on the nose of the plane, another traditional Chinese pattern. A purple variation with a slightly different design was unveiled later.
