In 2011 BA launched a contest with the aim of promoting British talent in the run up to the 2012 London Games. Pascal Anson's Dove project was chosen and mentored by artist Tracey Emin from the judging panel. He chose the dove because "as well as being a symbol of peace and social unity, it was used in ancient Olympics as a messenger to send Games reports to outlying villages, and the bird also played a role in Olympics ceremonies such as that at the last London Games in 1948". The painting unconventionally also included movable parts of the aircraft such as slats and flaps. A total of 9 A319 were supposed to wear the livery but only 7 were painted in the end. Note the design was kept long after the Games, with EUPH finally being repainted in November 2018.
