This fifth Expo 2010 scheme was chosen among 180 designs submitted for the "Eye of the Expo" design competition. The theme of the competition was communication and exchange through the eyes. The winning entry was a blend of the China Eastern red and blue colours with the green and yellow colours of the Expo. Black was added in a way the whole livery looked similar to a traditional Chinese drama mask. Altogether these five colours also matched the colours of the Olympic rings and reminded us of the worldwide aspect of the Expo.
Note the «Better City, Better Life» titles were later replaced by standard China Eastern Yunnan titles (which is standard for all aircraft flying for the Yunnan subsidiary of China Eastern).
