The Formula 1 made its debut in the United Arab Emirates in 2009 at the Abu Dhabi
Yas Marina Circuit built for the occasion. As the state airline Etihad was a logical sponsor choice and the partnership has continued since. The titles include the current year and are changed accordingly. This aircraft made a low-pass on the occasion of the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 1 November 2009.
The special livery of the A340, the flagship of the airline at the time, was unveiled at Airbus' Hamburg Finkenwerder plant in early 2009 and has helped Etihad raise the global awareness of its relatively young brand.
