China Eastern Airlines was a logical sponsor for the 2010 World Fair as it is based in Shanghai. After unveiling this specially painted A340 in March 2006, two specials were added in 2009 with 3 more joining in 2010. All those designs were part of a large advertisement campaign aimed at raising China Eastern brand awareness accross China and abroad.

Green and orange were the distinctive colors of the Expo 2010, and in this first design they were blended with the red, gold and blue colours of China Eastern. This A340 was undoubtedly the most widely known of the Expo 2010 liveries, serving the international flagship routes of the airline for almost 10 years, even long after the Expo and until the type was retired.
